Elsa Kawai is an award-winning, cross-media visual designer at AOL. Her talents go beyond just design and advertising -- she is a gifted photographer and also a jewelry designer.
We wanted to share the wide range of Elsa's photographic works, which encompass fine art, advertising, fashion, nature and landscape, architectural, food, abstract, lifestyle and portraiture. It is rare to come across a photographer who can work well in so many different genres of photography.
This week we are giving you a sneak preview of Elsa's photos and are posting some images from Elsa's landscape series (more to come later.)
We asked Elsa what inspired her and how she developed her photography skills (she has no formal training in photography). She told us, "I was born in Malaysia and grew up in a humble, middle class family. I rarely had any childhood toys, and my grandmother once told me that the best and most satisfying toys reside within one's own imagination." These words inspired Elsa to delve into her artistic capabilities, and as a little girl Elsa would often draw everything in sight and create visual games to pass the time.
Elsa draws inspiration for her photos from the people around her and tries to capture those moments or emotions that provide insight into the most mundane or seemingly normal activity.
