Pictures of the Week: March 29-April 4

A blood trail from a harp seal leads to a small boat where sealer hunters are loading carcasses from an ice floe off the coast of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, March 31.

This image is mostly made up of three colors: black, white and red. These three colors work together to convey a powerful image. The red boat against the black water appears menacing as it lurks in wait. The red trail of blood against the white ice provides us with a stark visual sense of the suffering inflicted by the brutality of the hunt.

Fortunately, not all of this week's Pictures of the Week are as stark or as brutal, but they still tell the story. Please take a look and vote for the most compelling image.

I think including this picture is disgusting.

the work manship of the picture is beautiful. the thought behind it is very sad because it shows us the realness of this system we live in. not even the farest parts of the world are not safe from man.

the photographer who took this picture i have to say hand off to you. it takes a great deal of love for GODs creation to try to get people to open their eyes to this system that we need to know about.

Congratulations to the photographer who cared enough to shoot this act of murder. It is unfortunate that those responsible for murdering innocent animals cannot be photographed receiving their punishment. Perhaps they will get to meet the animals they killed at some future point in time. Unless they are touched by the cruelty of their first kill, they will continue to be bloodthirsty men and women, mammals who are in charge of helpless mammals. To whoever thinks that the photographer should not have included this, I ask you: HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WILL LEARN WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD WITHOUT PHOTOS? IT IS OBVIOUS THAT WORDS ARE NEVER ENOUGH OF A WARNING--GRAPHIC IMAGES ARE REQUIRED TO MAKE THE HEART WEEP--if it will or does.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE SEALS is similar to the WHALE HARVEST, EXCEPT THIS IS ON A LARGER SCALE. KILLING HELPLESS ANIMALS IS PROOF THAT SOME HUMANS HAVE HEARTS AND MINDS THAT WERE NEVER TOUCHED BY LOVE AND RESPECT. SHOULD WE PRAY FOR THESE PEOPLE? YES, WE SHOULD PRAY THAT CIRCUMSTANCES WILL EVOLVE THAT WILL RENDER THEM UNABLE TO HUNT AND KILL AGAIN.

THOSE WHO HUNT FOR SURVIVAL OF FAMILY AND SELF ARE EXEMPT FROM MY CRITICISM AND NOT SUBJECTS OF MY PRAYERS.
