Pictures of the Week: Feb.10-16

This week, I'd like to get some feedback from you:

Are you a regular weekly viewer of the Pictures of the Week gallery? Have you just started viewing the gallery, or have you been checking in to see it each week for years? What do you like? What don't you like? I love putting this gallery together each week and I'd like to ensure that it's the best on the web ... and for that I'd like your help. Please give me your feedback.

This week, the photo of the two wounded Marines embracing while they mourn their fallen comrade struck me as a very powerful image -- full of emotion and composed in a way that highlights the strength, dedication and patriotism of these heroic individuals.

Do you agree? Check out the gallery and vote for what you think is the top picture.

- Lee

THE SHOT OF THE TWO MARINES IS STRONG ...MORE THAN MOST YOU GUYS EDIT BUT YOU GUYS DO A DAM GOOD JOB ON A DAY IN AND OUT BASIS NOT JUST HERE UT ON THE PHOTOS THAT APPEAR ON THE NEWS SECTION OF AOL IF THAT COMES UNDER THE SECTION YOU EDIT

FOR SOME REASON THE PHOTO THAT RAN RIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS OF BOXING PROMOTER DON KING KEEPS POPING TO MIND. IT STANDS OUT IN MY MIND BUT THAT PIX WAS EDITED MY A GUY I USE TO WORK WITH AT THE VIRGINIAN PILOT......MIKE HEFFNER. HE WENT WITH AOL WHEN HE LEFT THE PILOT...I RETIRED A COUPLE YEARS AGO.

Hi Lee:
Of course - any photo of any casualities is sad.  These two men are just two of thousands who have been killed, maimed and injured in just another senseless barrage of destructive action of people against people. As long as people choose to fight other people there will always be dead and injured people.  The only redeeming fact here is these two men presumably are professionals who chose their career to serve and protect  - unlike the Vietnam Vets who were drafted... No-one treated the Vietnam Vets very well when they returned maimed and battered, did they?  But yeah, it's sad. Of course. That goes without saying.
For contrast - You might want to show some pictures of certain politicans on vacation and dining at fancy restaurants and playing sports and generally having a great time while the soldiers are busy fighting...

Wow It is nice to know that other people have the same views as me.
It is a very powerful picture and i beleive that the troops shouldn't have to suffer anymore. How many have we lost now? It's too many. I'm done with it. I know they're done with it. Our country is done with this war. Why isnt the president???

I've looked at POW for a very long time. I recall when AOL Visions first went online. I'm actually looking in more often as I get the RSS feed from this blog and then I'm subscribed to the POW feature feed as well.

About the only thing I can think of is ditch the navigation column on the right and make the photos bigger. It's surprising what a 100 pixels can do.

Keep up the good work!
