Natural Beauty

It's harder than you think. Given the job to come up with a photo gallery of 10 women who personify natural beauty, you would think: no problem. Anyone can come up with a list of 10 beautiful women. Easy, right? Wrong! Just how do you go about it? How do you come up with a list like that?

First, I came up with my own list of names ... Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, etc. But part of our list criteria had to be portraits not only of women who were naturally beautiful, but who might be surprising -- some names not necessarily on everyone's list.  We wanted to go beyond the typical names you often see in the pages of People or found in the tabloids or on TMZ.com, like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton.  So I decided to solicit some help. I asked some colleagues to come up with their own list of names. What I received was quite an array of names -- from movie and TV stars to athletes. Then of course I had to hear it from my wife, who had her own list of names and asked me how could I possibly put so and so in the gallery? There is no pleasing everyone.

Once we settled on a list of names, the final criteria was to find a beautiful portrait. We made the decision early to use photographs from Corbis Outline, part of the Corbis Picture Agency. The portraits had to be creative and a cut above the rest, and Corbis Outline was the answer. Their portraits often are shot by photographers who work for some of the top magazines, like Vogue, InStyle, Vanity Fair and Entertainment Weekly. What we ended with, I think, is a great gallery of interesting names and beautiful images. See who made the list: Natural Beauty - AOL Pictures.  What do you think of our gallery? Who in your view should have made the list?

Interesting collection there!  Hmmm...who would I add?
Maybe Drew Barrymore.  Maybe Faith Hill?   Dunno....I'm too tired to think right now!

Nancy :)

PS.  Oh...and me.

Fabulous picks for Most Beautiful Women.  I agree with them all, and also with the three you mentioned were from your own list that did not make it in.

One error.  Halle Berry was not the first African American woman to win an Academy Award.  It was Hattie McDaniel for her performance in "Gone With The Wind".

Yes, Halle Berry was the first African American woman to receive an Academy Award as Best Actress.  However, at first reading, it looked like you were saying she was the first to recieve an Academy Award at any time.  Depends upon how you read the last two sentences........................my apologies.

Sorry if the Halle Berry caption was a little confusing.  Please let us know if you see anything you think is not correct.  Thanks for contributing.

BLEH!  Not only badly chosen, but badly written.  Reads like a hack job of press releases; grammar incorrect and style inconsistent.  All too young, also, to qualify as "women," no matter what the alleged legal age is.  Klum is the only one of womanly age, but hardly a thorough beauty (if we're regarding inner beauty as well as literal face value) with her callous "Auf"ting of the poor schlemiels on Project Runway.  Her kids also (at least the one in last week's pic of the latest celebrity births) don't look a thing like Seal.  If she's been artificially inseminated by the same sperm bank Jacko used for his kids to keep the pigment subdued, how much beauty does that add to a person's character, potential mercy marriage aside?  There are too many truly beautiful women in the world, most from far previous decades, and too many damn stupid lists like this.  If all the compilers sign their names to it, then it's justified and plausible.  Presented as a consensus for us as AOL readers, it's crap!  Just stop doing these freaking lists!  Here are my ten contributions, not top per se, but off the top of my head: Selma Hayak, Kelly Choi (never seen her "natural," since she's always with heavy makeup, but she's always hot; catch her on NYC-TV locally in New York, Ch. 25), Alicia Keyes, Cameron Diaz, Dakota Fanning (I can appreciate youth), Jodie Foster, Tina Turner, Iman, Maura Tierney (from ER, for decades--natural enough?), and Sophia Lauren.  So there!

Sophia Loren is a classic beauty that none of your picks will ever compare to, she has beauty, grace and humility that no one will ever come close to

How awful, you made a list of the ten most beautiful women in the world and didn't include Sela Ward? Jeri Ryan? or Jennifer Lopez? or Jessica Simpson?  There are many more women who are more beautiful than Maria Sharapova and Nellie Furtado, Kate Winslett an Jewel!!  I'm surprised you didn't include Paris Hilton or Sandra Bullock!!

I find it sad that in 2006 the standard of natural beauty is fair-skinned women with Caucasian-type facial and hair features.  I don't think that you looked hard enough.  Think outside the box and the typical fashion magazines to find brown and black skinned, kinkier -than- straight hair beauty.  It's all around you.  Adjust your thinking, then reopen your eyes.

What about Charlize Theron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, all gorgeous and natural unlike the mentioned Paris, Lindsay and the other trashy ones.

you missed the real natural beauty....Diane Keaton....

You got Heidi Klum, my others in my own top three include Catherine Zeta-Jones and Miranda Kerr. They are absolutely gorgeous.

You forgot:

1. Kate Beckinsale
2. Ashley Judd
3. Natalie Morales
4. Monica Potter
5. Rachel Weisz

Painted faces and hair styled is not natural beauty. Take that away  and you will find many women with out all the glitter prettier. Look and you will see women with a real natural glow raising children, working and caring for parents. No makeup or frills.

Elisabeth Rohm...not only is she one of the loveliest women on tv today, she's also one of the best dressed.  Very classy all around.

Great list!  Thank you for including Zang Ziyi, who is my personal favorite.  Thank you for NOT inclunding Beyonce (hard and fake looking).  But why not Angelina Jolie?  She is a natural and unique beauty.

Zhang Ziyi. "eerie, otherworldly beauty, simmering intensity"? I absolutely agree! So who's the rookie moron that chooses the photo that has half of her face covered? Obviously, someone at AOL owed someone's Mommie a big favor. Back to the mail room kid!

Your comments are great. You talk about her lucious lips, ---then you hide them

Kate Winslet is extremely natural.  I absolutely love how she does not let the affects of Hollywood discourage her from what she eats, such as Nicole Ritchie.  I feel however that Halle Berry is beautiful, but not so natural...

The photo of Liv Tyler is most definately touched up.
